Artist Statement

Encompassed by the smell, enlightened by the starkness of white against dark wood, and intrigued by a fresh new tool other than a crayon, at three years old, Christina Ambubuyog recalls the moment her spirit became fascinated with creation as she righteously painted shapes and swirls with a bottle of Liquid Paper on the side of her parent’s dresser.  The meditative delight she experienced at such a young age became the catalyst for a life full of creative expression.

Captivated by light and dimension, Christina’s experimentation during high school helped to form her realistic style, eventually earning her scholarship to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  There she studied art and technology.  Immersing herself in the digital realm, she discovered the computer as a new tool and created kinetic sculptures.  From there, she continued her education at Columbia College Chicago, and in 2002, received her B.A. in Interactive Multimedia and Fine Arts.  Her college years gave Christina an opportunity to show her work.  She exhibited at group shows, freelanced as a graphic designer and also began training as a decorative painter for M.Weil Interiors in Chicago.  This opened up many doors for Christina, including the opportunity to create large-scale murals.  Her decorative work has transformed many homes and businesses, including the Pearl Lounge in Chicago, Heart Five in Tucson and The Stratosphere Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.  Understanding the importance of art education and working with community, Christina has also taught at The Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.

Her study in clairvoyance, energy healing, and meditation at Invision Chicago has evoked another facet into her creativity.  Returning to canvas, Christina’s paintings capture the spirit as sentient beings in connection with the self and the world around. As a vibrational healer she emanates the energetic frequencies of color to enhance healing and harmony while portraying the soul essence of bold female characters, dancing trees, delicate flowers and mystical landscapes.  She approaches her organic style playfully using vibrant color and fluid lines, showcasing the intimate relationship between the spiritual and terrestrial.  Practicing the art of being completely present as she paints, bears influence as to how her emotions embark on their own spiritual journey through each brush stroke.  It’s a moment to moment dynamic process for her, success being measured each time she taps into that meditative delight experienced at the age of three, while being in childlike awe with her own ability to voice sublime spirit through art.
